Membership
Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative (GCEC) membership is open to all who are able to use the service and willing to accept the membership requirements. Memberships include:
- Single membership
- Joint membership
- Commercial membership
Membership Requirements
The Tariff for Electric Service (PDF) states services can only be provided to GCEC members, and the following is required to establish membership:
- Application for Membership
- $20 Membership Fee
- Deposit, as applicable under the Deposit Policy
- Fees for starting service, as applicable
- Contribution in Aid of Construction for any new service, as applicable
All membership applications must be approved by the GCEC board of directors. Memberships are non-transferable, but a joint membership can be assigned to a surviving spouse. The board can cancel a membership if a member violates or refuses to comply with GCEC Bylaws, Articles of Incorporation and/or policies.
GCEC will hold a membership application and the related service or work order for 6 months. If the applicant has not fulfilled all membership requirements needed to establish service within this time frame, the membership application and related service or work order will be voided and the membership fee refunded. GCEC will process subsequent membership applications and service request as new requests.
The service application and application process will determine actual fees and costs needed to start electric service.
Capital Credits
As a cooperative, GCEC operates on a not-for-profit basis. All revenues over and above the cost of doing business in any fiscal year are allocated to the members as capital credits. Each year, the board of directors evaluates the financial health of the co-op to decide if a capital credits retirement is feasible. Member patronage is used to run the co-op’s daily operations, maintenance projects to provide reliable service, and goes toward bills and taxes.
