Equipment & Responsibility
Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative (GCEC) furnishes 1 permanent meter base and meter for permanent residential services. The member provides the meter loop and a suitable and easily accessible location for all service equipment including:
- Meter base
- Meter loop
- Safety service switches when required
- An adequate anchor for service drops
- Sufficient and proper space for installation of meters and other service equipment
GCEC responsibility ends at the meter loop and all equipment behind the meter is the member’s responsibility.
Meters and service switches must be installed in accordance with the latest revision of American National Standards Institute, Incorporated Standard C12 (American National Standard Code For Electricity Metering), and will be readily accessible for reading, testing, and inspection. GCEC does not allow meters to be installed on poles owned and maintained by the Cooperative. While this was practice for many previous years, this policy/practice has changed.
A new line extension will not be constructed without a properly wired meter loop that meets all national, state and local electric codes.
Electric SpecificationsMeter Readings
GCEC reads meters via an Automated Meter Reading system utilizing electronic reporting devices to read the electric meter and send data via a cellular network to GCEC.
The meter at your service location is a highly calibrated and highly accurate device. Very few commodities are as accurately measured as your electric service. Even with this accuracy, the tendency is for a meter to measure less than actual usage. GCEC tries to ensure accuracy for your benefit, and ours, through a regular maintenance program.
Meter Testing
You may request a test of your electric meter if you believe that the meter is not accurately reflecting your actual electric consumption. This test will be made at no charge to you, provided that the meter has not been tested during the previous 4 years. In the event you request a test more often than 4 years and the meter is not defective, a meter test charge may apply.
